Getting serious about music education

Just heard that National Curriculum writers for the arts have been told to write on the assumptions that the hours given per year to teaching the arts will be 40 hours up to grade 4, 50 hours grades 5-6, 80 hours junior secondary. That’s split among 5 art forms. That is not enough time at all!! I want to debate against this. Some schools don’t even teach music to kids. It can’t get written off the map!!

I would like to see this: 2 hours a week general music education split over 2 lessons plus performances by visiting musicians and excursions to events.

We need, as nation, to get serious about music education.
